The NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. (NBBL) on April 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding the generation of ‘Bill Reference Id’ for all ON-US transactions.
The following has been stated: -
•As per BBPS Guidelines, all Operating Units (OUs) must generate a ‘Bill Reference ID’ for every ON-US transaction.
•ON-US transactions must be accurately reported in monthly returns submitted to the Central Unit.
•Discrepancies were observed between reported ON-US transactions and those recorded via the Bill Reference ID API.
•OUs are required to ensure consistency between reported data and system-generated records, failing which it will be treated as non-compliance.
•These reports are further submitted to the regulator, so accuracy and adherence are critical, and support can be sought from Relationship Managers.
