Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka on April 10, 2026, issued the Draft Karnataka Excise (Manufacture of Fortified Wine from Grapes) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Karnataka Excise (Manufacture of Fortified Wine from Grapes) Rules, 1968.

The following has been stated:

• In rule 2, after clause (1), a new clause shall be inserted, namely:- (1-A) “Excise Year” means the year commencing on the first day of July and ending with the 30th day of June of the next calendar year.” 

• Rule 8 shall be substituted with “(1) The licence shall be granted in Form M.W.G.2 and shall be subject to the conditions specified therein and shall take effect from the date specified therein. The licence shall be valid for a period of 5 (five) Excise years, including the year of grant, subject to annual payment of licence fee and additional licence fee at the prevailing rates.”

• The objections or suggestions may be addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Finance Department, Vidhana Soudha, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru -01, by April 20, 2026.
