The Tea Board India, on April 08, 2026, issued Policy on usage of Plant Protection Formulations in Tea Plantations of India.
The following has been stated: -
•The Plant Protection Code (PPC) Ver. 19 (2026) promotes sustainable tea cultivation through Good Agricultural Practices and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
•It emphasizes reduced dependence on chemicals, encouraging biological control and safer alternatives while ensuring productivity.
•Only approved and registered Plant Protection Formulations (PPFs) with label claims for tea are permitted, with strict monitoring by Tea Research Institutes and Tea Board.
•The code mandates safe handling, storage, usage, and disposal of pesticides, along with worker training and safety measures.
•It aims to minimize harmful impacts on humans, wildlife, and the environment, while ensuring quality and food safety.
•Regular monitoring, record-keeping, testing, and compliance mechanisms are required to ensure responsible pesticide use and reduced residues in tea.
