Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) on April 15, 2026, issued a notification regarding the strengthening of the FASTag Data Accuracy.

The following has been stated: -

•National Highways Authority of India has directed banks to validate Vehicle Registration Numbers (VRNs) linked to FASTags.

•Action follows complaints about mismatches between FASTag data and actual vehicle number plates.

•Errors mainly stem from older FASTags issued before integration with the VAHAN database.

•Incorrect VRNs may lead to revenue loss and penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

•Banks must verify and blacklist faulty FASTags to support future systems like MLFF tolling.
