The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on April 13, 2026, issued the retail price of the Lobeglitazone Sulfate 0.5 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride IP 1000 mg (As Extended release form) for M/s Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Manufacturer) & M/s Zuventus Healthcare Ltd. (Marketer).
The retail price calculation for the fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet containing Lobeglitazone Sulfate (0.5 mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (1000 mg, extended release) is based on historical pricing data and applicable ceiling prices. The retail price of Lobeglitazone was taken as ₹8.69 (based on August 2025 data), while the ceiling price of Metformin was ₹4.12, leading to a combined base price of ₹12.81.
As per pricing methodology (referencing the Pronab Sen Committee approach), a deduction of 20% on the lower-priced component was applied, resulting in a reduction of ₹0.82. This brings the worked-out price of the formulation to ₹11.99.
Although the manufacturer claimed a price of ₹20.00, the proposed retail price is fixed at ₹11.99, being the lower of the calculated price and the claimed price, ensuring affordability and regulatory compliance.
