The National Medical Council (NMC) on April 07, 2026, issued the Draft Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, further to amend the Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine Regulations, 2023.
The following has been amended:
• A new definition of AFMS has been inserted, and special provisions allow AFMS doctors to register with any one State Medical Council but practice across all States/UTs during service. After retirement, they must register with the state where they intend to practice.
• Additional qualifications registered during service will be valid nationwide. Their licence will not become inactive due to delayed renewal, and licence transfer provisions will not apply during service.
• A new regulation 10A introduces a framework for handling professional misconduct, where the registered State Medical Council will decide cases based on recommendations from the state where the incident occurred.
• Objections and suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Deputy Secretary (Reg-EMRB), NMC, Room No. 003, Guest House, Ground Floor, National Medical Commission, Pocket-14, Sector-8, Dwarka, Phase-1, New Delhi-77, and sent by email at ([email protected]) by May 15, 2026.
