The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on April 13, 2026, notified the establishment of several new Indian Standards under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. These standards primarily relate to areas such as artificial intelligence, medical instruments, electrical components, and process control systems, with dates of establishment being March 30, 2026.
The notification includes standards like IS/ISO/IEC 5259-5:2025 on data quality governance for analytics and machine learning, and IS/ISO/IEC TS 12791:2024 addressing unwanted bias in AI systems. Additionally, revised standards for products such as eye forceps, copper conductors, and voltage signal systems have been introduced to align with updated technical and safety requirements.
Further, certain existing standards will continue concurrently until their specified withdrawal dates, mostly set as September 30, 2026. These include earlier versions of IS 5367, IS 8572, IS 10408, and IS 12556, ensuring a transition period for stakeholders to adapt to the revised standards.
