The Government of Delhi on April 17, 2026, issued Paid Holiday for Employees Voting in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Elections on April 23, 2026.
The Election Commission of India has announced that General Elections for the Legislative Assemblies of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal (Phase I) will be held on April 23, 2026 (Thursday). This day will be treated as a paid holiday under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
All employers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, including industrial establishments, factories, shops, and commercial institutions, must grant a paid holiday to employees who are registered voters in these elections, if the polling day is a working day for them.
Non-compliance with this direction will result in action under the applicable legal provisions.
