The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on April 17, 2026, Grants Approval to NSE for Investment in National Coal Exchange of India Limited.
The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) has received approval from SEBI to invest in the proposed National Coal Exchange of India Limited, marking an important step toward establishing a formal platform for coal trading in India. The company will also seek a license from the Coal Controller Organization to set up the exchange.
The proposed coal exchange aims to enable electronic spot trading of coal through standardized contracts, ensuring transparent price discovery and efficient settlement mechanisms for producers, consumers, and traders. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s coal sector reforms and is expected to promote a more structured, transparent, and efficient coal market, subject to necessary approvals.
