The Government of India (GoI) on March 19, 2026, issued the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to further amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Section 12 which states “Grant of certificate of registration” for sub-section (6), the following sub-sections shall be substituted, namely: -
“(6) The certificate granted under sub-section (3) shall be valid for a period of five years”
• Chapter IIIA which states “Vesting of Foreign Contribution and Assets in Designated Authority” has been inserted.
• Section 35 which states “Punishment for contravention of any provision of the Act” shall be substituted, namely: -
“Whoever accepts, utilises or assists any person, political party or organisation in accepting or utilising, any foreign contribution or any currency or security from a foreign source, in contravention of any provision of this Act or any rule or order made thereunder, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both”
