The Government of Nagaland on March 31, 2026, issued the Nagaland Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Bill seeks to promote ease of doing business by decriminalising minor and technical offences across several state laws and replacing imprisonment provisions with monetary penalties and compounding mechanisms.
• The Bill amends various Acts such as the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act, Nagaland Municipal Act, Nagaland Town and Country Planning Act, Nagaland Forest Act, and provisions relating to public health, trade licensing, and local administration.
• Through these amendments, it removes criminal liability for procedural lapses, rationalises penalties based on the severity of defaults, and introduces a more compliance-friendly framework.
