The Government of Goa, on April 23, 2026, issued a notification under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, declaring the said date as a “Paid Holiday” on account of the polling day for the General Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
The notification mandates that all persons employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishments in the State of Goa, who are entitled to vote in the said election, shall be granted a paid holiday. This provision ensures that eligible voters are able to exercise their franchise without any loss of wages or employment benefits.
Further, the paid holiday extends to workers across all categories, including daily wage and casual workers employed in commercial establishments, industrial units, government departments, and other organizations. This holiday is in addition to the already notified holidays for the year, reinforcing the importance of voter participation in the democratic process.
