The Tea Board on March 20, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Introduction and Operationalisation of "TeaMark" Certification Scheme, Traceability and Digital Market Facilitation System for Domestic Tea.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Tea Board introduces “Tea Mark” as a quality certification and assurance label for tea.
• It aims to promote quality, consumption, and marketing of tea in domestic and global markets.
• Tea Mark signifies that tea is tested and verified as per Control Orders and FSSAI standards.
• The Tea Board will be the owner and proprietor of the Tea Mark.
• The scheme is voluntary and does not impose trade restrictions.
• Only tea manufacturers registered under the Tea (Marketing) Control Order, 2003 can apply.
• The Tea Board will:
o Design, register, and promote the mark
o Set application procedures, fees, and usage rules
o Authorize eligible manufacturers
• Authorized users can display the mark on packaging after meeting prescribed SOP conditions, including quality and compliance norms.
• The Board will ensure:
o Testing through approved laboratories
o Supply chain traceability and origin verification
o Action (suspension/cancellation) for violations like misuse or false claims
• Tea Board may create an e-commerce platform to promote certified teas (with nominal fee)
