The Energy Department, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh on March 12, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Directorate of Electrical Safety (Measures Relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Order, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Government, under the Central Electricity Authority (Measures Relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2023, has issued a set of notifications to streamline electrical safety compliance and inspection requirements. It designates 33 kV as the threshold voltage up to which installations can be self-certified, while installations above this level shall be inspected annually by the Electrical Inspector. For installations up to 33 kV, annual self-certification by owners/consumers/suppliers is mandated, subject to safety norms.
• Additionally, generating units above 10 kW require inspection before commissioning; however, rooftop solar units (including those under the PM Surya Ghar scheme) are allowed self-certification to promote renewable energy, provided proper protection systems are installed to prevent back-feeding into the grid during outages.
• The notification also mandates that multi-storied buildings (above 15 meters) with supply exceeding 11 kV shall undergo inspection by the Electrical Inspector.
