The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on April 21, 2026, issued the Digital Payments – E-mandate Framework, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• It lays down a comprehensive regulatory framework for financial entities, focusing on strengthening compliance, risk management, governance, and reporting standards. It consolidates existing instructions and mandates that regulated entities (such as banks/NBFCs) implement robust internal systems, including periodic audits, proper documentation, and adherence to prudential norms.
• The direction emphasizes accurate data reporting, transparency, and accountability, requiring institutions to maintain proper records and ensure timely submission of regulatory returns. It also highlights the need for internal controls, monitoring mechanisms, and adherence to regulatory guidelines to prevent irregularities and financial risks.
• Overall, the direction aims to enhance financial stability, regulatory oversight, and operational discipline across entities governed by the RBI.
