The Government of Uttar Pradesh, on April 17, 2026, issued a notification regarding the revised Minimum Wages.
The following has been stated: -
•Following reports of industrial unrest in Gautam Buddha Nagar due to rising living costs, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a high-level committee to review labor demands and maintain industrial peace.
•The committee, which consulted workers and employers, acknowledged the financial strain on laborers caused by increased rents and inflation, while also considering the operational challenges faced by industries due to global economic shifts.
•Consequently, under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the Governor has ordered an interim hike in minimum wages effective from April 01, 2026.
•For the purpose of wage determination, the state has been categorized into three tiers: Category I (Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad), Category II (districts with Municipal Corporations), and Category III (all remaining districts).
•In Category-I, the total monthly wage for unskilled workers is set at ₹13,690, for semi-skilled at ₹15,059, and for skilled workers at ₹16,868.
•These rates include a base salary and a variable dearness allowance (VDA) calculated on recent consumer price index averages.
•The directive aims to ensure industrial productivity and safeguard the livelihoods of workers across seventy-four scheduled employments.
•This order supersedes previous labor notifications and is officially published in the state gazette to ensure immediate compliance.
