The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), on April 22, 2026, has notified the commencement of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. In exercise of powers under section 1(3) of the Act, the Central Government has officially appointed the date from which the provisions of the Act will become operational.
Accordingly, the Act will come into force from May 1, 2026, marking the formal start of the regulatory framework governing online gaming in India. This notification activates the legal basis for regulation, including establishment of authorities, compliance requirements, and oversight mechanisms prescribed under the Act.
This commencement notification serves as the foundational step for implementation of the broader regulatory regime, enabling subsequent rules, guidelines, and enforcement actions under the Act.
