The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on April 20, 2026, issued the Direction to Block Rogue Streaming Websites Following Delhi High Court Order (IPL 2026 Case).
The following has been stated:
• DoT has issued instructions to all internet service licensees to block access to specific rogue websites and mobile applications following an order of the Delhi High Court in the case involving illegal streaming of IPL content.
• The court case, filed by JioStar India Private Limited, highlighted unauthorized apps/websites illegally streaming copyrighted content (including IPL 2026). Based on the court’s directions, telecom and internet service providers shall immediately restrict access to identified domains to prevent copyright infringement.
• Additionally, domain registrars and service providers have been directed to block, suspend, and share details of such infringing platforms, while authorities like MeitY and DoT will coordinate enforcement.
