The Government of Chandigarh on April 17, 2026, issued the Draft Chandigarh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, to further amend the Chandigarh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Rule 11 which states “Licencing of manufacturer, repairer and dealer of Weights and Measures”, the following has been inserted namely: -
(11) The licenses to be issued to Manufacturers and Dealers of Weights and Measures under the Act and Rules shall henceforth be issued on self-declaration basis, without requiring any physical inspection of the premises.
(12) The registration of Packers / Manufacturers / Importers under the provisions of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, shall henceforth be issued on self-declaration basis, without requiring any physical inspection of the premises.
(13) All Licenses issued under the Act and rules made thereunder shall be auto-renewed subject to the payment of fee and online submission of periodical returns as mandated under Schedule VII of Rule 13 of the principal rules, by such means as may be prescribed by the Controller Legal Metrology”
• Schedule XII which states “Classification of Weights and Measures and Weighing and Measuring Instruments” has been inserted.
