The Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh on April 09, 2026, notified regarding the Fixation of Maximum Profit Margins on Essential Commodities in Kinnaur District.
The following has been stated:
• The District Magistrate of Kinnaur has issued an order under the Himachal Pradesh Hoarding and Profiteering Prevention Order, 1977, to regulate prices and prevent profiteering by fixing maximum wholesale and retail profit margins on essential commodities.
• For key items such as foodgrains, pulses, sugar, and paper, margins are capped at 2.5% (wholesale) and 5.5% (retail), while items like eggs, bread, fruits, vegetables, and edible oils have specified or variable margins. Certain commodities, including LPG, kerosene, diesel, meat, and cooked food, will have prices fixed periodically by authorities or based on company rates.
• The order also defines cost components for calculating prices, restricts dealers to charging only one type of margin per transaction, and sets minimum quantities for wholesale classification.
