The Ministry of Textiles on April 23, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Stock Limit Order on Raw Jute.
The following has been stated: -
•The Deputy Jute Commissioner has imposed strict stock limits under the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016, allowing nil stock for all stockists/balers and limiting jute mills to 45 days’ consumption.
•Entities holding excess stock must sell by May 05 2026, and deliver by May 15, 2026, with compliance reporting via email.
•No fresh purchases are allowed until stock falls within prescribed limits, and contracted stock counts with the seller until delivery.
•Non-compliance attracts penalties under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, including imprisonment and fines.
•Exemptions may be granted to mills for exports/market commitments, and authorities are empowered to inspect, search, and seize stocks for enforcement.
