The Government of Kerala on March 17, 2026, issued notification regarding work in the plantation sector during summer season and working hours in the sun.
In the wake of the rising temperatures in the state, an order was issued to adjust working hours in the plantation sector, including the plantation sector, as per the order in the reading. Plantations located at an altitude of more than 3,000 feet above sea level were exempted from the scope of this order on the grounds that there is no risk of sunstroke. However, considering the extent of the current heat wave experienced in the state, the exemption granted to the plantation sector under reading (1) is hereby removed and all plantations in the plantation sector are included within the scope of this order.
