The Department of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs, National Capital Territory of Delhi, on April 24, 2026, notified the Societies Registration (Delhi Amendment) Act, 2026, to amend the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The following has been stated: -
•Insertion of Section 12D after Section 12C. Section 12D empowers the Registrar to cancel the registration of a society on grounds such as violation of legal provisions, activities against its objectives or public policy, or if registration was obtained through fraud or misrepresentation.
•However, the society must be given a reasonable opportunity to respond or make necessary changes before cancellation.
•Any such order can be appealed to the Divisional Commissioner within one month of communication. The Commissioner will review the case and pass a decision.
•This decision is final and cannot be challenged in any court.
It shall come into force on April 25, 2026.
