Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) on April 27, 2026, issued a notification regarding the initiation of a Sunset Review investigation of Countervailing Duties on Aluminium Wire in coil form or wire rod in coil form having a diameter ranging from 9 mm to 13 mm originating in or exported from Malaysia.

The following has been stated: -

•Hindalco Industries Limited, Vedanta Limited, and Bharat Aluminium Company Limited filed for a sunset review of countervailing duty on aluminium wire rods from Malaysia.

•Under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, such duties expire after 5 years unless reviewed for continued need.

•The original duty was imposed in 2021 and is valid till September 23, 2026.

•The product covers aluminium wire rods (9–13 mm diameter), both alloyed and non-alloyed, classified under Chapter 76.

•The Authority found domestic producers represent a major share and qualify as the domestic industry, alleging continued subsidies by Malaysia.

•A sunset review investigation has been initiated to assess whether removing duty would lead to continued subsidization and injury, with submissions required via the DGTR SETU portal within prescribed timelines.
