The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on April 27, 2026, notified regarding the Amendment in the export policy of Wheat.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has amended the export policy for wheat (ITC HS Codes 10011900 and 10019910). While the export status of wheat continues to remain “Prohibited”, the notification allows a one-time additional export of 25 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT), subject to detailed procedures to be issued separately by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
• Additionally, the earlier condition under DGFT Notification dated May 13, 2022, remains applicable, permitting exports based on government-to-government approvals to meet the food security needs of other countries. Thus, the amendment maintains the overall export restriction while allowing controlled and conditional exports to address strategic and humanitarian requirements.
