Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on April 08, 2026, issued a notification regarding the implementation of system controls in NRCS for chargebacks raised under reason codes 3004 & 3005.

The following has been stated: -

•NPCI will implement system controls in the NRCS back office to validate chargebacks under reason codes 3004 (blacklisted vehicle) and 3005 (low balance).

•Invalid chargebacks, as per defined scenarios, will be automatically rejected with reason code 5226 (“Active Tag, Issuer chargeback claim is not valid”).

•All rejected transactions will be visible in the acknowledgement file for transparency.

•The new controls will go live from May 15, 2026, and member banks must update their reconciliation systems accordingly.
