The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on April 27, 2026, issued the Draft Central Motor Vehicles (…… Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated: -
•Amendments made to Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 mainly update emission-related tables and headings.
•Vehicle weight limit in Table 2 revised from 3000 kg to 3500 kg, and fuel terminology corrected (e.g., HCNG to Hydrogen+CNG).
•Fuel categories expanded to include higher blends like E20, E100 (ethanol) and B100 (biodiesel).
•Several technical corrections were made in notes and tables, including unit changes (Mg/kWh to mg/kWh) and revised emission values.
•Annexure reference for E100 vehicles updated from Annexure S to Annexure SA in Rule 115E.
The objections or suggestions may be submitted within 30 days from April 28, 2026.
