The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on April 28, 2026, issued a direction under Section 16 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, regarding the enforcement of the new standards for Meat Sausages notified under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025.
The following has been stated: -
•The compliance deadline for new meat sausage standards under FSSAI regulations has been further extended.
•Initially extended till May 2026, the timeline is now extended by an additional six months from May 01, 2026.
•The extension is due to technical challenges faced by the industry and an ongoing scientific study.
•This direction is issued under Section 16(5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
