Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on April 23, 2026, issued a notification under the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, announcing the establishment of new Indian Standards and the concurrent withdrawal of certain existing standards. These standards were formally established on April 21, 2026, with specified transition timelines for older versions where applicable.

Key updates include the revision of IS 12615:2026 relating to efficiency classes and performance of line-operated three-phase AC motors, replacing the 2018 version, which will be withdrawn on October 21, 2026. Additionally, IS 19789:2026 (aligned with ISO 16021:2024) updates standards for absorbent incontinence products, superseding the earlier 2000 version. New standards such as IS 17900 (Part 3/Sec 2):2026 for lifts (goods/automobile), and IS 19791:2026 for ENT surgery instruments (microdebrider) have also been introduced.

Some standards, including IS/IEC 60068-2-11:2021 on environmental testing (salt mist test), have been reaffirmed without withdrawal of previous versions. The notification ensures a transition period where both old and revised standards operate concurrently, facilitating smooth industry adaptation and compliance.
