The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), on April 28, 2026, issued Circular revising the physical NACH mandate form to align execution practices and incorporate regulatory updates. The revision applies to all NACH member banks and associated participants, including merchants, corporates, and payment aggregators, with immediate effect.
The circular mandates immediate adoption of the revised mandate form and corresponding XML format (Annexure A). A key technical change requires the use of the “frequency” tag—currently applicable to e-NACH mandates—in the XML generation for physical mandates as well, ensuring standardization across physical and digital mandate processing.
To facilitate a smooth transition, earlier mandate formats will remain valid until September 30, 2026, and banks are instructed not to reject mandates solely due to non-standard format during this period. Post this date, destination banks may exercise discretion in accepting or rejecting older formats. The update aims to enhance uniformity, interoperability, and compliance in NACH-based electronic fund transfers.
