The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on May 07, 2026, issued a notification regarding State Preparedness to Eliminate Stubble Burning in 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed the preparedness of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh for eliminating paddy stubble burning during 2026.
•States presented action plans focusing on in-situ and ex-situ crop residue management, availability of CRM machines, awareness campaigns, and enforcement measures.
•CAQM highlighted that stubble burning is a major air pollution challenge and stressed coordinated action at the state, district, and grassroots levels.
•The Commission also reviewed wheat stubble management and noted significant fire incidents reported in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh between April and May 2026.
•States have been directed to submit revised action plans, strengthen preventive measures, improve monitoring systems, and enhance public awareness initiatives.
