The Government of Maharashtra, through its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, 2026, aims to position the state as a leading hub for AI innovation and adoption. The policy focuses on leveraging AI to drive economic growth, improve governance, and enhance public service delivery. It aligns with national initiatives and emphasizes inclusive and responsible use of technology to benefit citizens, industries, and the overall digital economy.
The policy is built around key pillars such as development of AI infrastructure, creation of robust data ecosystems, and promotion of research and innovation through Centers of Excellence. It also prioritizes strengthening the startup ecosystem by offering support for AI-based enterprises and encouraging public-private partnerships. Special emphasis is placed on scaling AI solutions from pilot stages to full implementation across sectors like healthcare, agriculture, transport, and governance.
A major component of the policy is capacity building and employment generation. To ensure effective implementation, the Electronics, IT & AI Department will oversee the policy with a structured governance framework.
