The Government of Maharashtra, on May 08, 2026, issued Guidelines regarding the implementation of the Maharashtra Agricultural Land Leasing Act, 2017.
The following has been stated:-
•The circular provides guidelines for implementation of the Maharashtra Agricultural Land Leasing Act, 2017, and the Maharashtra Agricultural Land Leasing Rules, 2024.
•It mandates that all lease agreements must be legally registered under the Registration Act, 1908, clearly specifying the lease period and the consideration terms.
•The circular protects landowners’ ownership rights while enabling tenant farmers to access crop loans, crop insurance, and government welfare benefits through registered lease agreements.
•Tehsildars have been directed to maintain separate lease registers and act as competent authorities for dispute resolution within three months.
•It also prohibits sub-leasing and requires prior Collector approval for leasing land belonging to Scheduled Tribe persons.
