The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), on May 8, 2026, issued Circular Ref. No. 27/2026 prescribing the Unique Client Code (UCC) framework for the newly introduced Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment on the Exchange platform. The circular has been issued pursuant to the launch of the EGR segment announced earlier in April 2026.
Under the framework, Trading Members have been informed that the segment code for creation of UCCs in the EGR segment shall be “E”. NSE has clarified that all existing validations applicable to the Cash Segment, including compliance and client verification requirements under the Exchange Master Circular, will also apply to the EGR segment. Members have additionally been permitted to create UCCs through the New Client Bulk Upload file format prescribed by the Exchange.
The circular further provides that only UCCs identified as compliant by the Exchange at 10:00 PM on the previous day will be permitted to trade on the next trading day. NSE will disseminate segment-wise reports for “Permitted to Trade” and “Not Permitted to Trade” clients, along with demat and bank account validation status reports. The circular will come into effect from May 16, 2026, and members have been advised to take necessary compliance actions accordingly.
