The Government of Maharashtra on April 07, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles (First Amendment) Rules, 2026, to further amend the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Rule 249 of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the following proviso shall be added, namely: -
"Provided that, it shall not be necessary to have an attendant in a heavy goods vehicles other than articulated semi- trailer vehicles and hydraulic trailers used for carriage of over dimensional consignment, where such vehicle is equipped with a Driver Assist System.”
