The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on May 07, 2026, seized the Misbranded Alkaline Water in Gujarat over Non-Permitted Ingredients and Labelling Violations.
The following has been stated:
• It has taken enforcement action against a manufacturer of alkaline water in Savli, Vadodara, Gujarat, following a consumer complaint received through the Food Safety Connect portal. During inspection of the manufacturing unit, officials found several violations, including the absence of a product name on the front label, missing ingredient declarations, visible black particles in the product, contradictory packaging descriptions, unexplained blackish-brown coloration, and sediment presence. Stocks worth around ₹31.61 lakh were seized.
• Laboratory analysis later confirmed the presence of fulvic acid, which is not permitted under existing FSSAI regulations for such products. Investigation revealed that the substance originated from added black mineral materials and was not naturally present in the water, indicating a violation of food safety and labelling standards.
