EHS ComplianceThe Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on April 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding restrictions on the production of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) while granting environmental clearance.

The following has been stated:-

•The Government has directed all SEIAAs and EACs to regulate Environmental Clearances for Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) production in line with India’s obligations under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment. 

•India will freeze HFC production and consumption levels from January 01, 2028, and gradually reduce them through phased targets up to 2047. 

•No new or additional HFC production capacity for controlled applications will be permitted beyond December 31, 2027. 

•Any new or expansion proposal for HFC production must include an undertaking that installation and production will commence before the 2027 deadline. 

•The directions aim to ensure compliance with international environmental commitments while regulating future HFC production capacity in India.
