Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on May 09, 2026, issued the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Amendment Rules, 2026, further to amend the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013.

The following has been stated:

• The amendment revises the First Schedule of the principal rules relating to weights and measures that can be verified by Government-approved test centres. The updated schedule expands the list to include various measuring and dispensing instruments such as water meters, clinical thermometers, rail weighbridges, weighing instruments, gas and energy meters, speed meters, flow meters, petrol/diesel dispensers, and CNG, LPG, LNG, and hydrogen dispensers. It also empowers the State Government to notify additional weights or measures in the future. 

• Further, the Fifth Schedule has been amended to prescribe verification fees for fuel dispensing units, fixing the fee for petrol/diesel dispensers at ₹5,000 per nozzle and ₹10,000 per nozzle for CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispensers.
