The Government of Chandigarh on May 12, 2026, notified regarding the minimum rates of wages for the employees in various Departments situated in the Chandigarh District w.e.f. April 01, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
The following has been stated:
• The revised rates apply to employees engaged in Government Offices, Boards, Corporations, Public Sector Undertakings, and autonomous bodies under the U.T. Chandigarh Administration. The notification increases wages across multiple categories of posts, including unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, technical, clerical, supervisory, medical, educational, and professional positions. For example, several support staff categories, such as attendants, helpers, chowkidars, peons, and cleaners, have seen their monthly wages revised from ₹22,680 to ₹24,494. Higher technical and professional posts, including engineers, legal officers, teachers, medical officers, architects, scientists, and assistant professors, have also received corresponding increases, with some senior categories reaching up to approximately ₹87,275 per month.
• The notification further clarifies that the prescribed wages are for 8 hours of duty per day, while part-time wages are to be calculated proportionately.
• Departments may grant additional wages or benefits depending upon the nature of duties and working hours.
• It also provides that outsourced employees who have completed five years of continuous service without break as of March 31, 2026, will be entitled to an additional 2% increase on their basic wages, subject to the availability of departmental budget.
