The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoS&PI) on May 12, 2026, issued the CPI Inflation data for April 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation reported that India’s retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.48% in April 2026, with rural inflation at 3.74% and urban inflation at 3.16%.
•Food inflation, measured through the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), rose to 4.20% during the month.
•Items such as potatoes, onions, motor cars, peas, and air conditioners recorded lower inflation, while silver jewellery, coconut, gold jewellery, tomato, and cauliflower saw the highest price increases.
•Among states, Telangana recorded the highest combined inflation at 5.81%, while CPI data collection achieved near-complete coverage across rural and urban markets nationwide.
