The Ministry of Rural Development, on May 11, 2026, notified July 1, 2026 as the date from which the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA), along with all rules, notifications, schemes, orders and guidelines framed thereunder shall stand repealed.
The notification has been issued under section 37(1) of the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, also referred to as VB-G RAM G Act, 2025. The repeal will take effect from July 1, 2026.
This marks the formal transition from the MGNREGA framework to the newly enacted Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) regime for rural employment and livelihood programmes.
