The Government of Ladakh on May 08, 2026, issued the New Electrical Installation Inspection and Safety Certification Procedure for Power Supply Connections
The following has been stated namely: -
• Central Electricity Authority issued revised procedures for inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations in the Ladakh before commencement or recommencement of electricity supply.
• For electrical installations below 250 volts, minor works such as replacement of lamps, fans, switches, fuses, and household appliances are allowed without inspection/testing, provided there is no change in installation capacity and IS standards are followed.
• For installations above 250 volts and up to 650 volts:
o Self-certification by the consumer/owner/supplier is permitted.
o Test certificates must be signed by an empanelled Chartered Electrical Safety Engineer.
o Reports must be submitted to the Office of the Electrical Inspector, Ladakh.
• Consumers may voluntarily opt for inspection and testing by the Electrical Inspector by paying the prescribed inspection fee, and if acknowledgment is not issued within 3 working days, the self-certification report will be deemed accepted.
• For installations exceeding 650 volts (HT/EHT supply), including 11 kV and above, mandatory inspection and testing by the Electrical Inspector is required before supply commencement or reconnection after shutdown of six months or more.
This shall come into force on May 08, 2026
