The Government of Karnataka on May 12, 2026, issued the Karnataka Excise (Manufacture of Fortified Wine from Grapes) (Amendment) Rules, 2026 to further amend the Karnataka Excise (Manufacture of Fortified Wine from Grapes) Rules, 1968.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In rule 2:-
o Clause (1-A) shall be renumbered as (1-AA).
o Before Clause (1-AA) as so renumbered, the following shall be inserted, namely:-
“(1-A) “Excise Year” means the year commencing on the first day of July and ending with the 30th day of June of the next calendar year”.
• In Rule 8 of the said rules, for sub-rule (1), the following shall be substituted, namely:-
“(1) The licence shall be granted in Form M.W.G.2 and shall be subject to the conditions specified therein and shall take effect from the date specified therein. The licence shall be valid for a period of 5 (five) Excise years including the year of grant, subject to annual payment of licence fee and additional licence fee at the prevailing rates”.
They shall come into force from May 12, 2026.
