The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on May 13, 2026, notified regarding the Inclusion of Rupee Bonds issued by the New Development Bank in the eligible investment universe under NPS.
The following has been stated:
• It has amended the National Pension System (NPS) investment guidelines following in-principle approval from the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, for issuance of INR-denominated bonds by the New Development Bank.
• Under the revised guidelines, Rupee Bonds issued by the New Development Bank have now been included as eligible investment instruments in both Government Sector and Non-Government Sector investment categories, alongside bonds issued by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Finance Corporation, and Asian Development Bank.
• All existing conditions relating to credit rating requirements of AA or above and applicable maturity specifications will continue unchanged. The circular has come into effect immediately.
