The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) on May 14, 2026, issued a circular regarding the identification and import clearance of Hazardous cargo.
The following has been stated:-
•The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced measures for the identification and expedited clearance of hazardous imported cargo based on industry representations.
•Importers will now be required to mandatorily declare hazardous cargo at the item level in Bills of Entry for goods covered under specified chapters listed in Annexure-A.
•The Customs system will automatically flag such Bills of Entry to officers during assessment, examination, and out-of-charge stages to ensure quicker processing and handling.
•The new facility, along with suitable Risk Management System (RMS) modifications, will be implemented across all Customs formations by July 01, 2026.
