The Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I) on May 14, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Wholesale Price Index for April 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation increased sharply to 8.3% in April 2026 from 3.88% in March 2026, mainly due to higher prices of mineral oils, crude petroleum, basic metals, and manufactured products.
•The Fuel & Power category recorded the highest annual inflation at 24.71%, while Primary Articles inflation rose to 9.17% and Manufactured Products inflation stood at 4.62%.
•Month-on-month WPI increased by 3.86% in April 2026, driven largely by a sharp rise in mineral oil and crude petroleum prices.
•The WPI Food Index also increased from 192.8 in March to 195.1 in April 2026, with food inflation rising from 1.85% to 2.31%.
