The Government of Andhra Pradesh, on May 13, 2026, notified the Draft amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated:-
•The Andhra Pradesh Government has issued a preliminary notification to amend the Andhra Pradesh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011, introducing a simplified licensing process for manufacturers, dealers, and repairers.
•Under the new rules, manufacturers and dealers can now obtain licenses through auto-approval by submitting a self-declaration, significantly reducing administrative delays.
•While repairers still require a license granted by the Controller, they must now hold a valid Certificate of Skill to ensure technical competency.
•Crucially, manufacturers and dealers are no longer required to apply for license renewals, as their approvals will continue automatically, subject to ongoing compliance.
•The government retains the power to suspend or cancel these licenses if any self-declared information is found to be false or if legal provisions are contravened.
•New forms, LM-1(a) and LD-1(a), have been inserted for these self-declarations, requiring applicants to certify that their products meet all national standards and model approvals.
•The fee structure has also been updated, setting a one-time grant fee of ₹10,000 for manufacturers and ₹2,000 for dealers.
•Stakeholders have been given a 15-day window from the publication date to submit any objections or suggestions regarding these changes to the Consumer Affairs, Food & Civil Supplies Department.
