The Climate Change Department, Govt. of Gujarat on May 13, 2026, issued the Heatwave Guide.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has issued heatwave safety guidelines in view of rising temperatures and severe summer conditions, especially during “Red Alert” situations declared by the Meteorological Department. Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated by drinking water and natural fluids regularly, wear light cotton clothes, eat fresh and water-rich foods, and avoid direct sunlight between 12 PM and 4 PM.
• A Red Alert indicates extreme heat conditions with a high risk of heat stroke, and during such periods, people are advised to stay indoors unless necessary, keep homes cool, and maintain ORS solutions for dehydration. Special precautions have been recommended for children, elderly persons, patients with illnesses, workers, travelers, and animals.
• The guidelines also list common symptoms of heat stroke, such as high fever, dizziness, vomiting, and dry skin, along with first-aid measures, including moving the person to a cool place, applying cold water, giving ORS, and seeking immediate medical help.
• Citizens have also been urged to show social responsibility by arranging water for birds and animals and helping people affected by heatwave conditions.
• The government emphasized that precaution and awareness are the best ways to prevent heat-related illnesses during extreme summer conditions.
