The Government of Manipur on May 15, 2026, issued notification on Aadhaar Authentication for Digital Governance Services in Manipur (2026).
The notification highlights the role of Aadhaar in simplifying identity verification for accessing government subsidies, benefits, and services, thereby enhancing transparency, efficiency, and ease of living. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in consultation with UIDAI, has authorized the Department of Information Technology, Government of Manipur, to use Aadhaar authentication under the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and related rules.
The Aadhaar authentication will be used specifically for digital platforms to facilitate citizen-centric services through the State’s unified service portal. This includes identity verification during registration and service access using Yes/No and e-KYC authentication methods. The objective is to improve governance and ensure seamless delivery of services.
Importantly, Aadhaar authentication is voluntary. The Department must obtain the consent of individuals before authentication and clearly inform them about alternative identification methods. No service shall be denied if an individual refuses or is unable to undergo Aadhaar authentication.
Alternative identification options such as Voter Card and Driving License must be accepted, ensuring inclusivity and safeguarding citizens’ rights while implementing digital governance measures.
