Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on May 18, 2026, notified regarding the Premature Redemption of SGB 2020-21 Series-II on May 19, 2026.

The Government of India notification dated April 13, 2020, permits premature redemption of Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) after the completion of five years from the date of issue, specifically on interest payment dates. Accordingly, for SGB 2020-21 Series-II (issued on May 19, 2020), the next eligible date for premature redemption is May 19, 2026.

The redemption price of the SGB is determined based on the simple average of the closing price of gold (999 purity) for the previous three business days prior to the redemption date, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).

For the premature redemption due on May 19, 2026, the redemption price has been fixed at ₹15,904 per unit, calculated using the average gold prices of May 14, May 15, and May 18, 2026.
